Incoterms

INCOTERMS are internationally accepted commercial terms issued by the International Chamber of Commerce defining the respective roles of the buyer and seller in the arrangement of transportation and other responsibilities and clarify when the ownership of the merchandise takes place.

EXW

Any type
of transport

EX WORKS (named place)
All risks pass at the moment the seller hands the goods over to the buyer at the place specified in the contract (factory, warehouse, plant, etc.).

FCA

Any type
of transport

FREE CARRIER (named place)
All risks pass at the moment the seller delivers the goods to the place and forwarder specified by the buyer. When collection services are used, the buyer pays for handling in the collection centre. 

FAS

Sea transport

FREE ALONGSIDE SHIP (named ocean port of shipment)
All risks pass at the moment the seller delivers the goods to the port and alongside the ship specified by the buyer.

FOB

Sea transport

FREE ON BOARD (named ocean port of shipment)
All risks pass at the moment the goods actually cross the ship rail in the agreed port of shipment. 

CFR

Sea transport

COST AND FREIGHT (named port of destination)
All risks pass at the moment the goods actually cross the ship rail in the agreed port of shipment. (identical to FOB)  

CIF

Sea transport

COST, INSURANCE AND FREIGHT (named place)
All risks pass at the moment the goods actually cross the ship rail in the agreed port of shipment (identical to FOB). The seller must secure insurance documents pursuant to the minimum cover specified by the Institute Cargo Clauses or similar terms. Insurance must cover all risks until unloading in the agreed place of destination. 

CPT

Any type

CARRIAGE PAID TO (named place of destination)
All risks pass at the moment the seller delivers the goods to the first forwarder.

CIP

Sea transport

CARRIAGE AND INSURANCE PAID TO (named place)
All risks pass at the moment the seller delivers the goods to the first forwarder (identical to CPT). The seller must secure insurance documents pursuant to the minimum cover specified by the Institute Cargo Clauses or similar terms. Insurance must cover all risks until unloading in the agreed place of destination.

DAF

DELIVERED AT BORDER (named place)
All risks pass at the moment the seller delivers the goods to the buyer at the agreed border place of destination (duty unpaid). 

DES

Sea transport

DELIVERED EX-SHIP
(named port of destination)
All risks pass at the moment the seller makes the goods available to the buyer on board ship in the agreed port of unloading.

DEQ

Sea transport

DELIVERED EX-QUAY (duty paid) (named port of destination)
All risks pass at the moment the seller makes the goods available to the buyer on the quay of the agreed port of destination (duty paid). If the buyer is to arrange import customs formalities, the expression “duty paid” must be replaced with “duty unpaid”.  

DDU

Any type
of transport

DELIVERED DUTY UNPAID (named place of destination)
All risks pass at the moment the seller makes the goods available to the buyer at the agreed place of destination (duty unpaid).

DDP

Any type
of transport

DELIVERED DUTY PAID (named place of destination)
All risks pass at the moment the seller makes the goods available to the buyer at the agreed place of destination (duty paid).
